Ministry Teams
Many hands, one body
These Ministry Teams carry out the work of Western Plains District day to day. Chaired by members of the Leadership Team, each one focuses on a different piece of district life, from communication and events to stewardship and outdoor ministry. Together, they help congregations across Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico connect, grow, and serve.
Communication Ministry
Works to shape and share the district’s message, both within our congregations and out into the wider world. The team works alongside District leadership and other Ministry Teams to decide what needs to be communicated and the best tools to do it, drawing on platforms like Microsoft, Google, WordPress, JotForm, YouTube, and Instagram to reach members, friends, and the community beyond.
Community Connections Events Ministry
Promotes and facilitates cross-congregational events that build connections across the district, coordinates leadership education for pastors and lay leaders, and supports the district’s ongoing work to build a stronger communications culture.
Congregational Resources Ministry
Initiates and supports programs that foster spiritual growth through fellowship and service. This can include age and interest groups, disaster response, Brethren Volunteer Service promotion, peace advocacy, Christian education, deacon ministry, and other efforts that nurture the inner life of our congregations and the district.
Congregational Vitalization and Jubilance Ministry
Encourages, connects, and equips the congregations of Western Plains. Every congregation, regardless of size, location, age, or current challenges, has gifts to share and a role to play in God’s work. Rather than prescribing one model of a “successful” church, this team listens to congregations, helps them recognize what God is already doing among them, and connects them with ideas, training, and relationships that support greater vitality.
Gifts Discernment Ministry
Believes that lasting transformation in our congregations comes from passionate, gifted leadership. This team seeks out and calls individuals into district leadership positions, and encourages those called to prayerfully and thoughtfully consider before responding.
Outdoor Ministry
Works to provide safe, fun Christian outdoor education and fellowship opportunities. The team works with the district’s camps, boards, and trustees to oversee long-range property plans and the financial health of all camp programs and property.
Set Apart Ministry
Carries the authority, assigned by Annual Conference, to credential ministerial leadership in the Church of the Brethren for the district. The team provides ongoing relational support as part of its commitment to well-trained, appropriately educated leadership, and offers counsel and guidance on ministerial matters across the district.
Stewards
Provides financial management and reporting for the district, while promoting stewardship education and fundraising. The team supports and encourages churches and other district groups in being faithful stewards of God-given resources.
