God calls us to be hearers and doers of the word. for over 300 years, Brethren have taken seriously the call of discipleship; to preach, teach and baptize as well as serve the “least of these” (Matthew 25 and 28). There is no greater call than to love God and our neighbors. Such a call is not for personal piety, rather a call to change the world. As disciples, we are called to sow the word, nurture the word, and be ready to receive all that God is doing in this world with us, around us, and through us. As the Church of the Brethren, how are we sowing the seeds of God’s Good News? How are we nurturing faith in others? And what do we believe about our future and the possibilities that are ahead? The familiar Parable of the Sower is about sowing, growing, and believing as we answer God’s call to be hearers and doers of the word.
