Help MC students volunteer at Heifer, Lybrook
Each year, McPherson College offers travel opportunities during spring break that students can spend their time serving others. Two Alternative Spring Break trips will be offered this year during the McPherson College Spring Break which occurs from March 16-20, 2015. (McPherson College news release)
One Alternative Spring Break option will be to the Heifer Ranch in Arkansas where students will have the opportunity to experience team building, along with service activities. Not only will they be able to give back, but they may also experience something for the first time like milking a goat or harvesting vegetables, while learning the value of such things, in addition to learning how Heifer International functions.
The second Alternative Spring Break trip is to the Lybrook Community Ministries & Tokahookaadi Church of the Brethren located in New Mexico. The Lybrook Community Ministries is experiencing growth and rejuvenation and our students will have the opportunity to be a part of it. They will spend the week working on houses in the community, assist with cooking at the mission, work in the thrift store, and possibly assist with setting up the spring garden. The evenings will be spent participating in community activities offered by Lybrook Community Ministries such as GED class, craft night, carpentry class, etc. They might even have an opportunity to learn some of the Navajo native language.
Students are not asked to pay for the cost of Alternative Spring Break trips, because we feel service to others should be an opportunity open to anyone regardless of their ability to pay. Some of the funds needed for this year’s travel have been raised, but we are still looking for 20 persons to sponsor a student’s Alternative Spring Break trip at $150 each. Would you please consider assisting us in our continued fundraising efforts to fund this year’s trips? Of course, any increment you are able to donate will be valued and appreciated, as well as any amount raised beyond what is needed for this year will be put toward next year’s McPherson College Alternative Spring Break trips.
