Disaster Relief Opportunities in Colorado

Western Plains has another opportunity to serve in Colorado where severe flooding occurred  in Sept. 2013.  Our week is June 28-July 3. Please prayerfully consider this and share with others you may have interest.

BDM logoBud and I will be going, and we need 13 others to join us.  We will likely take a van from McPherson.  Our district provides transportation costs so the only expense for volunteers is meals en route.  Meals and housing are provided on site.

We still could use recruits for the week of May 17-23, although a Disciples of Christ group from Pueblo will be helping that week as well.

After  20 inches of rain fell, five rivers became raging torrents through the hills and canyons north of Denver. The major culprit was the South Platte River, which has taken a completely different course in some areas. The flooding destroyed 1,882 homes and left 5,566 others with major damage in Weld, Larimer, and Boulder Counties.  We will stay at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 35th Avenue, Greeley.

The type of work in Colorado includes major repairs from flood damage such as floors, insulation, drywall, porches, etc. Some complete rebuilds are possible, as well as repairs to mobile homes. BDM receives its cases from our local long-term recovery partners. Tools and project leadership are provided.

Please contact us with any questions or thoughts on this.
