We invite one and all to come be a part of our special day, as Brother Dave paints his message on a two by four foot medium while speaking it. Dave is a Church of the Brethren pastor who believes in furthering the message of Jesus through art as well as word.

The schedule for our day at Holmesville begins at noon with a lunch, followed by our program and a snack to get visitors on their way home by 4 P.M. or so.

Dave plans to arrive on Wednesday, March 7 and be us until Tuesday, March 13. He would like to find other venues in which to present while here in Western Plains. • Eden Valley says “Goodbye”

    Eden Valley says “Goodbye”

    Submitted by Rita Suiter

It is with sorrow and joy that Eden Valley is saying goodbye to Pastor Tom Harrison and his wife Alanna. This pastoral team answered the call to serve at Eden Valley Church on September 1, 2009, and have been a blessing to our church family ever since.
While we are sad to say goodbye, we are joyful for The Harrison’s in their new adventure. As they are entering retirement from pastoral care, we are mindful that one never retires from the Lord’s work.
Tom and Alanna will be moving to Pratt, KS, in January to be near family and long-time friends.

May God bless them today and always.

The 2016 Annual Conference theme is “Carry the Light.” Program and Arrangements Committee is inviting all congregations to send creative pictures of different ministries from your church – the choir, the youth activities, mission work, fundraising events, fellowship, etc. that show how your congregation carries the light of Christ. We would like to develop a “congregational collage” that will be displayed on the video screens in the main hall before and after gathering for worship and business. • Domestic Violence Awareness Program Hosted in Independence

Eloise McCarty, chair of the Independence Church of the Brethren Witness Commission, invited members of the community on Friday, October 9th to hear informal speeches and dialogue on this critical issue.  One speaker shared her families’ tragic experience, with the hope that others might take action before suffering such a loss.  LaKisha Johnson, the Community Outreach Advocate for the Safehouse in Coffeyville replied when asked about  funding “It’s all from God.  There is no other way I would have ever had the strength or resources to meet the needs of the Safehouse. ”   The Montgomery  County Sheriff’s representative Detective Chad Dunham, relayed statistics which demonstrate a critical level of prayer and care are needed for all those involved. What is the Christian response to seeing domestic violence occur around us in our communities?  Our communities need volunteers willing to learn more, speak out more, become better listeners and observers of signs around us.  Later at the gathering, each person was offered a chance to light a candle in honor of someone who has  been a victim of domestic violence.  Some people named individuals and families, while some stayed silent. The Independence Daily Reporter featured this information in two articles in the Sunday edition, written by Denise Sage, covering this event.  We appreciate the input from the speakers and response by the local media.  More information on domestic violence can be found at www.nomore.org.
